A survey titled "2010 Chinese Netizens' Mental Health Survey" conducted by the health Web site 39.net showed that 80 percent of respondents lack the sensation of happiness and the greatest sources of stress came from school and work, according to Yangcheng Evening News.
More than 36 percent of office workers said that they are mainly stressed from work, career and development prospects, while more than 20 percent are stressed about the economy and living, including housing prices, daily consumption and expenses.
What deprives people of the sensation of happiness? Zhang Yanchi, chief of the Psychology Department of the Guangdong 999 Brain Hospital, said people from different social strata have different paths to happiness. Due to factors such as the pressures of competition and the struggle to realize self-worth, depression appears.
Regarding this, Zhang gave four suggestions. First, people should make efforts to change their perspective and focus more on the optimistic side. Second, people should look at things with a positive attitude. Third, people should appreciate what currently makes them happy, which will become the motivation for their future happiness. Fourth, people should clearly know their strengths and actively give full play to them in their daily lives to obtain satisfaction more easily.
The survey also shows that when facing pressure, more than 33 percent of respondents will talk to friends, more than 16 percent will sulk alone and only 10 percent are willing to talk with a psychiatrist. In addition, more than 50 percent of respondents believe their abilities to bear stress are weak.
